I sure hope:

1) the guy pays for his rescue, or has insurance to pay for it and

2) nobody else got hurt because the Coast Guard was busy rescuing him...

Somebody who wants to do something like this needs to have their own support system in place. Otherwise go ahead, it's your life to do as you please. Needing the Coast Guard to rescue you at great effort and expense on their part shows poor planning.
